{"id":605,"date":"2022-09-28T10:44:30","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T10:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/dialogues\/?page_id=605"},"modified":"2022-09-30T13:49:32","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T13:49:32","slug":"dialogues-19-to-21-october-2022-facing-sound","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/dialogues\/","title":{"rendered":"dialogues &#8211; 19 to 21 October 2022 &#8211; &#8216;facing sound"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This year&#8217;s Dialogues Festival is about interfaces for sound and music, we&#8217;re calling it <em><strong>&#8216;facing sound<\/strong><\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our 24th Festival shows artists pulling matters that may seem beyond music into the sonic and into an experience of listening. For example, the Festival starts with a concert of entirely new audio-visual material propelled into being by information pulled from Twitter in real-time. [<a href=\"https:\/\/digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/dialogues\/2022\/09\/28\/reticulations-faces-of-social-organisms\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"610\">Reticulations<\/a>] is conceived and led by Louis McHugh and features sonic artists (and ECA alumni) Dara Etefaghi and Nani Porenta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>On Thursday 20th October we&#8217;ll be exploring sound as it is heard across sites of great tension with panel discussions around themes such as the &#8220;<em><strong>acoustic conditions of detention<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; or the &#8220;<em><strong>delerium in the ICU<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; at our preparation day for the UNESCO week of sound 2023. In the early evening, Joshua Weitzel, Li Li (KSA) and Sam Tsao will present <em><a href=\"https:\/\/digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/dialogues\/2022\/09\/30\/tan-bone-faces-of-trauma\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"623\">TanBone (Sound Pot)<\/a>,<\/em> an art installation showing the results of research into noise as a gesture of protest and solidarity amid the recent military coup in Myanmar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Festival ends with entirely new interfaces for sound in a concert by Montreal&#8217;s foremost instrument builder, composer and installation artist, Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Laporte. Laport brings his extraordinary air compressor-powered instrument, the <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/dialogues\/2022\/09\/30\/faces-3-babel-table\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"615\">Babel Table<\/a> to ECA&#8217;s West Court on Friday 21 October at 7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year&#8217;s Dialogues Festival is about interfaces for sound and music, we&#8217;re calling it &#8216;facing sound.
