Each semester typically includes 11 weeks of teaching, plus an \u201cexamination\u201d period. Official session dates are given at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\/news\/semesters\/\">www.ed.ac.uk\/news\/semester-dates\/<\/a>. Note that in this programme we are not committed to avoiding all teaching during those weeks that are nominated as \u201cexamination\u201d weeks, since our own courses have no examinations. However, we will do our best to avoid any clashes with external option courses that students may take. \u00a0The period following the spring vacation will otherwise be dedicated to beginning work on the Final Project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Each course is 20 credits. The Digital Media Design Final Project is 60 credits.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All option choices must be approved by Course Organiser and Programme Director. In each of the option categories, one course may be substituted with a suitable alternative 20 credits available within the University of Edinburgh (including the list below), with the approval of the Programme Director. Students taking the programme <strong>full time<\/strong> <strong><u>must<\/u><\/strong> take <strong>60 credits<\/strong> in each semester. Students taking the programme part time must take at least one course per year and must complete the programme within 72 months.<\/p>\n<p>The full time programme runs through two semesters and the summer &#8220;vacation&#8221; period.\u00a0 Work on the supervised dissertation project occupies the whole of the summer &#8220;vacation&#8221; period.
