Access to workshops will be restricted to small numbers at any one time: capturing the activity of students and technical staff will allow at least some learning of techniques and possibilities to be shared beyond a given group present in the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Getting\nat the tacit understandings of an artful practice is critical in coming to\nunderstand the processes of creativity.\u2019 (Erin O\u2019Connor)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>WHY online workshop support is not just relevant, but is ESSENTIAL.<\/strong><\/li><li>If no workshop access is supported, students\nwill become completely distanced from the making process, undermining the\nentire ethos of what we do at ECA. <\/li><li>It\u2019s essential to keep students in touch with\nmaterials and workshops for their learning experience and understanding of\nprocess. Even when our students can\u2019t physically be present with us in the\nworkshops, keeping our students minds focussed on the end goal is an important\nfactor to how we keep our students engaged with the process.<\/li><li>When returning to campus and workshops, if no\ntechnical information has been shared, there will be an overwhelming amount of\ninformation to catch up on. It is important to keep these connections with\nmaterials and workshops to prepare students for entry into workshop spaces when\nthe time comes, ensuring that they will know and be familiar with their\ninstructors and Technicians, the environment, tools and materials. <\/li><li><strong>Communication\nskills<\/strong> are an essential part of the sharing of ideas. These skills need\nto be learned, and by online discussions and tutorials, these skills will be\nhugely improved on.<\/li><li>It will considerably improve and ease the\ntransition from purely online supported teaching to actual workshop making when\ncampus workshop spaces are operating again<\/li><li>Continuity of teaching<\/li><li>Workshop online access will aid in limiting\nfeelings of disconnection within student groups, assisting in the building of\nthe student\u2019s community. We can begin forming bonds between student and teacher\nand begin creating the very important community that they will be a part of.\nThis is ESSENTIAL regardless of environment and circumstance.<\/li><li>All online resources will provide an excellent\nback up for students to refer to. This will definitely enhance and support\ntheir learning<\/li><li>Iteration: Active conversation with technical\nreality.<\/li><li>Improving observational and listening skills\nthrough the videoing of technical support.<\/li><li>Resource only focused teaching will deny all technical\nskills which will be detrimental to student experience on return to campus.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Support can be given in various ways:<\/strong><\/li><li>Videos uploaded to LEARN<\/li><li>Online worksheets<\/li><li>Guided tours of workshops, including H+S instructions<\/li><li>Remote inductions of machines<\/li><li>Videos of techniques<\/li><li>Online one to one discussions\/tutorials with Technicians<\/li><li>Relevant support material shared<\/li><li>Live video feed of demos<\/li><li>Practical work undertaken by technicians and collected from a pick up point<\/li><li>Possible live feed so that student observes the process, and can give direct feedback<\/li><li>Live feed, discussions in a <strong>group<\/strong> with all students<\/li><li>Possibly create \u2018workshops\u2019 in TEAMS: We don&#8217;t have to lose the workshops essence, we could have one teams area for The Workshops, then individual channels inside it for each of the workshops.\u00a0This could hold documents etc., be a place for people to congregate online, for technicians to be if anyone needs them (doesn&#8217;t always have to be live in person can be asynchronous)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Next Steps:<\/strong><\/li><li>Identify\nwhat can be supported online<strong><\/strong><\/li><li>General\nworkshop introductions<\/li><li>Video\nwalk through of workshop spaces, identifying machinery<\/li><li>Video\ninductions of machinery, how to use them safely, what the machine is used for<\/li><li>Online\nworksheet to accompany video<\/li><li>What\nprocesses can be videoed? <strong>Communication\nand collaboration <\/strong>with Academic staff: Each Technician to have\ndiscussions with Academic staff to identify \/ prioritise which processes will\nbe needed first in order to support the teaching programme \/ course. <\/li><li><strong>Processes <\/strong>could also be accompanied with\nworksheets<\/li><li>Live\nfeed of process: Communicate with Academic staff to identify what is needed\nessentially (speak to Jenny Gray and Susan Cross)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Could have students watching\nTechnician working live on their designs\/ projects, giving real time feedback<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Problems to solve:<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>FILMING:<\/strong> What\nto film on? Mobile phones? GoPro? How many are there? <\/li><li><strong>AUDIO:<\/strong> Do we\nneed separate microphones?<\/li><li>Film first and then add the\naudio\/voice over?<\/li><li>How to film? Second person to hold\ncamera? Tripod needed?<\/li><li>Access to workshop facilities in\norder to film<\/li><li>Some Staff might not be comfortable\nbeing filmed (check sheet, to find out how comfortable people are? Or just\naudio record, with accompanying photos)<\/li><li>Need tips on how best to produce a\nsmall film: ie<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>PREP: WHAT exactly needs\nto be demonstrated?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STORY BOARD to ensure all\nessential information is covered<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>EDITING <\/strong>process:\nPremier Pro?
