How should I approach sound design for moving image?<\/p>\n

First impressions count.
\nWatch the footage and make notes straight after.
\nWhat impresses you about the footage?
\nWhere can it go?
\nWhat is special or mundane in what I am seeing?
\nHow much do I need to add sonically to make the space convincing and believable?
\nHow many layers are there in the material of the film?
\nWhat is foreground? What is background?
\nWatch the footage a second time and make notes as you watch
\nWatch the footage a third time and draw a graph of \u201cvisual energy\u201d
\nWill the graph of \u201csound energy\u201d be the same?
\nDevelop a \u201cscratch\u201d track, perhaps by improvising live as you watch the footage.
\nMaybe make several versions and choose the best elements of each.
\nOne sonic thread will probably excite you so start to develop that first.
\nNext, chase up other threads until you have a working track.
\nWalk away.
\nCome back \u2013 anything unnecessary, irrelevant, over the top, slightly naff?
\nGet rid of it.
\nHave a random screen test. Ask for opinions.<\/p>\n
