What is sound design…?<\/a> a symposium at the University of Edinburgh, Full details:<\/strong> digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/whatissounddesign<\/a><\/p>\n Reservation and venue information:<\/strong> digital.eca.ed.ac.uk\/whatissounddesign\/booking-venues-and-reservation\/<\/a><\/p>\n The University of Edinburgh is delighted to announce and invite you to its first symposium on sound. Over three days, we’ll explore the question “What is sound design…?”by deliberately avoiding answers, engaging instead with sound and its design in terms of duration. On day 1 we’re listening from\u00a0samples to seconds<\/a>, on day 2, seconds to scenes<\/a> and on day 3, scenes to systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n Each day features short lectures<\/a> from University of Edinburgh staff, a keynote speaker<\/a> talking to the day’s theme, a gritty panel discussion<\/a> will consume each afternoon and the day will end with a concert<\/a>.<\/p>\n Visiting speakers from across the the domains of film sound, games, performance, forensics, social geography, industrial audio, location sound and experimental technologies will contribute to what should be a challenging, intriguing and noisy three days.<\/p>\n The symposium also celebrates 10 years of the University of Edinburgh’s MSc in Sound Design<\/a>, a programme of study that is unique in scope and ambition. Graduates have gone on to work across the industry, many have established their own business projects or taken PhD study. This symposium has been inspired by the programme’s graduates and their diverse contributions to this expanding field.<\/p>\n We look forward to you joining us.
