Homework – list of possible films
This year’s films are on the subject/theme of physical movement. In particular human bodies, but not nescessarily all of the films, there is a strong emphasis on dance in the selections below.
Watch these films. DO NOT listen to their sound. Instead, watch in silence and make notes. This is a very important encounter and should not be squandered in distraction – you will never have a first impression again so watch carefully, and book yourself an hour of you-time to allow you to watch these and explore how you might fit into the film.
Remember, listen in silence, do not listen to the film soundtrack, this will colour things for you improperly.
- What do you notice?
- What’s the film about?
- What could this film be about?
- What is the sonic potential of these films?
- What would you like to do with the film?
- Could the voice that you want to speak in as a sonic artist/musician work in this context?
- What can you do with Max already that could be adapted into an exciting sonic resolution of the film?
- What do you notice from an interpretive perspective? How many different meanings and ideas can you map to this in order to make the film really sing? The more possibly interpretations there, the more potential there is to accomodate different players and styles simultaneously.
Remember, listen in silence, did I already say that, then don’t forget it, listen in silence!! Don’t watch these with the sound on!
