playRoom a multi-speaker rant by Martin Parker – 15th February 2015

playRoom is around 30 minutes long and was written as an anti-sweetspot mutli-speaker rant, come and sit where you like. You may never hear any of the courageous orators whose passion inspired the piece but the music is propelled entirely by the conviction of innumerable speeches harvested from youTube and other soapbox platforms. Voices on the verge of tears, laughing, arguing, defending, attacking and reflecting give this piece both its form and energy.
The first version of playRoom was performed at Inspace in 2012 with the support of New Media Scotland. Aspects of the project have since been to Munich and Colorado, however, tonight’s version is entirely new, configured especially for the Georgian Gallery and performed on a 26 speaker system put together with Tommy Stuart and Owen Green.
