audiovision 28th November 2013

Among other performances, this concert will feature

Christos Michalakos – Trrraction

Trrraction is a new improvised work using the Augmented Drum-Kit, a personal electro-acoustic instrumental formation based on the acoustic drum-kit. The visual element of the performance is an integral part of the hybrid instrument. Similarly to the electronic sound, the visuals are controlled, shaped and directed in real-time through physical gestures performed on the acoustic percussion. Their incorporation to the instrument aims to further extend its expressive boundaries but also interrogate the perceived relationships between physical performative effort and electronic sonic result.

Christos Michalakos (GR) is a composer / performer who works with combinations of bespoke instruments, acoustic percussion and live electronics. Aside from performing regularly as a solo artist, he often improvises and collaborates on projects ranging from duos / trios (Můstek, DMT, Better A Broken Bone) to large-scale free jazz, noise and improvisation ensembles (Edimpro).

His works have been presented internationally at: NIME (Oslo), ICMC (Ljubljana), ISEA (Albuquerque), Sonorities (Belfast), Dialogues Festival (Edinburgh), BEAM Festival (London), Network Music Festival (Birmingham), SOUND Festival (Aberdeen), Data Is Beautiful (Budapest), among others.
